This week, construction began at the airport’s West Terminal Apron to remove and replace 28,000 square yards of concrete. At airport aprons, the space can be used to park, unload or loaded, refill, or board aircrafts.
“The West Terminal Apron is a critical part of the airport’s infrastructure and is used to park aircraft near the terminal jet bridge,” Airport Commissioner of Aviation, Shelley LaRose-Arken, said in a statement.
Officials anticipate the project’s completion by this fall.
The project is funded in part through a $3.3 million airport capital improvement grant that is administered by the Federal Aviation Administration. Additional funding came through federal grant funds that became earlier this month.
